Sumant is an eminent policy lawyer.
His contribution in the development and shaping of Indian insolvency policy and industry are well-recognised.
He has been part of global standard setting work in insolvency, and has worked on reforms in South Asia, Eastern Europe and other jurisdictions. He is credited with advocating insolvency reforms at the time (1990s) when this area of policy did not resonate with the policy makers as it then did.
He is the Founder and President of Insolvency Law Academy, an Indian Institute of Excellence in Insolvency, set up nudged by then Chairman of Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council Late Dr. Bibek Debroy.
