Sumant is the founder and convenor of Kumaon Literary Festival, a not-for-profit annual literary festival held at Te Aroha in Dhanachuli in Uttarakhand. The first edition of the festival was held on 23-27 October 2015. The second edition of the festival will be held from 11-15 October 2016.
Conceptualised as the first-of-its-kind annual destination festival in the country, KLF is built around an unconventional framework and format. With its goals and roadmap for implementation clearly outlined, the festival will be gradually institutionalised so that it is not just a one-off event in a year. The festival is part of a larger vision to develop Dhanachuli into a model cultural village.
