Sumant is the co-Founder of Dalit Literature Festival. The main objectives of the festival are to create a robust and formidable literary platform for Dalit literature; mainstream Dalit literary work, bring it on centre stage of literature; help increase the circulation of Dalit literature and make it more accessible to readers; create more avenues and opportunities for Dalit writers and creative persons, in particular the young Dalit and non-Dalit writers; provide platform for Dalit culture, performing art, films, food, etc.; develop programmes for translation, creative writing skills, etc.
Co-founded with Sudha Sadhanand, the festival will be held from 6-8 December 2016 in New Delhi. The inauguration will take place on 6th December – the 62nd death anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
